My 5 favourite colourful kid's bedrooms
Kid’s bedroom trend- colourful
When I’m thinking of children’s spaces then lots of colour is definitely at the forefront of my mind.
Most of us don’t have the space in our homes for separate play rooms for our little ones, so making their bedrooms a space that is full of inspiration (as well as storage) can be easily achieved with good use of colour.
Here are a few of my favourite spaces, glorious spaces I’ve found through some of my favourite instagram and Pinterest accounts. Full of colourful walls, piles of funky cushions, bold rugs and painted furniture. Let me know your thoughts in the comments!
Hubba hubba Yellow Colour Blocking
I love love love the yellow colour block wall in this room. The home of illustrator and paper sculpture Chloe Fleury, who lives in Venice Beach - the natural light was always going to be amazing given the climate over there, but the zing of the yellow really brings a glow to the room. Keeping the rest of the walls white really emphasises this bold colour choice too. This style works for small rooms just as well as large ones too and will bring a smile even on the greyest of days. Add a few colourful cushions, rug and mix and match bedding to really embrace the eclectic style.
2. Maximalist vibes
Dominy who runs the ever inspiring kids interiors instagram account @Bowinthesky is amazing at creating stylish maximalist children’s rooms. Full of colourful furniture and art prints, Dom also uses fun items such as metal lockers and suitcases as storage. This playful use of colour and tactile surfaces is perfect for a fun children’s space. I always feel that kid’s bedrooms should be the rooms in which we can experiment with ideas we wouldn’t want to go all out with in other rooms in the house. So hang that feature wallpaper and paint the ceiling a bold colour!
3. Great use of Height!
Not in your face crazy colour, but the mix of wallpapers, colourful bedding and fun prints tick all the boxes for me with this small but practical kid’s bedroom. If you’re having to share bedrooms or are lacking for space then bunkbeds or cabin beds are a must and this room definitely nails the use of space. Overlaping the beds at different angles makes then not feel stuffed into a corner and zones the room.
4.Wallpaper!
If we’re on the subject of wallpaper than you can’t miss this amazing space with such a huge wall mural. This design is available as panels that you paste up like regular paper, but wow what an impact. Don’t think that you need a huge room to pull off such a big design either- we’ve in fact done something similar in our box room for our youngest. A huge forest and mountain scene painted in the corner of the room and along one of the walls. Don’t be afraid to play with the scale, it can really pay off. I love all the use of tones in this room too - the other walls are kept plain but match the tones of the paper, as Dows the bed canopy and the bedding. A super stylish children’s room that will easily grow with them and can easily be styled in different ways as they get older.
5. Bold and brooding!
Ending on a high with my favourite colourful kid’s rooms with this dramatic number from instagrammer Maaike Beijer. This colourful room has all the things you need to create a really special space - fun patterns, a statement lampshade, great rugs, vintage painted furniture, bold bed canopy and great storage. I can see myself as a child adoring that desk space for creating all my pencil drawings, the soft furnishings look great for curling ups reading a great book and the ladders would have been endless fun.
I think that’s one of the best thing about creating a colourful and inspiring place for your little one’s to call their own - have fun with it!
