7 Easy Craft ideas to entertain the kids during the summer holiday lockdown

As the schools look to be closed here in the UK until September I thought it would be useful to share a few of my favourite craft ideas that will help entertain the kids. We’re big lovers of using recycled items in our house, painting egg boxes and turning loo rolls into far more fun and interesting things!

Here’s a run down of my top 7 favourite ideas I’ve found across the Internet.

1.Egg box Mermaids

All you need is an old egg box, scissors, paint, string and card. Add some eco glitter for extra fabulous-ness!

2. Rainbow Mobiles

After all these deliveries we’ve been having from all my lockdown shopping we’ve got a tonne of cardboard boxes we can cut up! Empty cereal boxes work well too! Paint and string up! Little ones love making things they can decorate their rooms with too which is why I love this little project.

3. Pine cone Bird Feeders

My little girl has loved watching all the birds in the garden the past few weeks so we’ve been making bird feeders to entice more in. Simply cover them in peanut butter and roll over some seeds. Easy peasy for little hands.

4. Toilet Roll Rockets

Have fun creating these space rockets, cut the coloured shapes from old magazines and make a fun fire trail with tissue paper. We’ve then been runing around the house pretending to launch them into space for the rest of the afternoon of course!

5. Paper Plate Dinosaurs

Both my little ones are obsessed with dinosaurs, plus we always have a stash of paper plates left over after birthday parties. Perfect!

6. Cardboard play food

One of my favourites to follow on instagram- @abelsplaythings shared this painted play food and it looks like a great project, definitely on our list of things to try next.

7. Masks

Free to download in my shop is a pdf of different masks. Print onto thin card, colour and have fun pretending to be a tiger, a bear or even the sun! I love projects that can continue to be played with after the craft activity has finished. Click the picture to go straight to the page.

Hope you found all these ideas useful and they helped stave off the boredom for a little while at least!

Please don’t think you’re even on your own with these feelings of overwhelm and not knowing how to entertain them sometimes - there is a LOT of screen time happening over here too unfortunately. But I will always try to get them making and creating. You can always reach out if you need any more pointers and definitely share some pictures if you do make anything from this list

Keep safe and healthy
